Scout Leader

Here we are back at shape. I started with the head and made two 3d (ish) ovals. The big smile followed naturally, and I thought, Who smiles bigger than a hapless volunteer? I take a lot of pride in this little guy. He's not the most technically advanced, but I like his style (that one shoulder drives me nuts, though).

Space Cadet

One of the main points I've been trying to focus on making characters that look like they exist in 3d space. At the same time, though, I want to practice making fun people with enjoyable features. This guy, for example, has a decent stance, but I love that hair and the three eyeballs! The ear is lifted pretty much straight off of Penny Arcade, but whatever.

Truck Stop

This is one of my first sketches since I met with Mike West. He told me that my drawings could use more form and depth, so I tried to draw a nice big man. The trucker is alright, and I think the tiny coffee makes for a funny scene, but man I love the way that waitress stands.

first things first

The purpose of this blog is pretty straight forward. I want to be an animator some day, and in order to make that dream a reality I am determined to focus my drawing skills and see changes and advancements in my style. My hope is that having this blog (along with the goal of updating it regularly) will help me to fill my sketch book and map my progress. I'd really love it if anyone who has experience in art and/or animation would leave comments and tell me what you think.

These are not final drawings or anything close to it, just concepts and explorations. Thank you.

About Me

My photo
When I come home I find odd projects, weird pictures, mess, and happy, well adjusted kids. You should know about all the clever crap Dave Does too. It's so fun you might copy some too.
